Celebrating the Coming of Christ; Wishing You Peace

To our watershed family:

As we seek to follow Jesus together, we give him thanks for you, and the journey we're sharing. May we continue to be the church together.

I'd also like to share couple of thoughts for Christmas with you...

The birth of Jesus made possible not just a new way of understanding life but a new way of living it.

- Frederick Buechner, "Listening to Your Life," Christianity Today, Vol. 37, no. 15

Life is a consta [...]

A Family Christmas Celebration

If you're in town this weekend, I hope you'll join us for our family Christmas celebration on Sunday morning at 10am. We gather to encounter God together, to worship the God who is with us. Our time together will include experiential elements for the whole family as we journey through the story of the coming of Christ...the story that invites us to life with God!

A Growing Family: Let's be the church

It's been an exciting couple of months for the watershed family, with several new friends joining us for the journey of life with God. We're still a young family and learning how to best share the joys and challenges of life together. My prayer has been that we will continue to listen to the voice of God together to find our way forward.

That means we need you!

As part of our family, we rely on the work of God in your life to help us be who God wants us to be. Where is Go [...]

A Map to Live By

We all have a way of seeing and understanding the world: a map for life, if you will. Our gatherings last Sunday and this coming Sunday invite us to consider the map we're using to make sense of the world...how good is your map? Does it reflect the way the world really is, or is it like a map that places the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower in the middle of Stoughton: interesting but not at all helpful.

This week we're exploring how our maps help us understand a world full of [...]

Time to Conspire

Over the past month or so, we've been considering ways that we might rethink Christmas in order to worship fully, spend less, give more and love all. One way that you and your family might consider doing that is to use a portion of what you would have spent on Christmas gifts to help provide for other significant needs in Stoughton and around the world. Some families are spending less money on Christmas gifts, and giving more of their time and relational energy: the gift of presence.

[...]

A Few Quick Reminders

This Saturday: Fall Cleanup
The leaves are down, and we have a few opportunities to rake and do some general fall cleanup for MARC & HeadStart. We'll meet at MARC Stoughton this coming Saturday, November 22nd at 9am. Bring a rake, bush trimmers, gloves, a leaf blower or whatever else might help out with fall cleanup. If you know of someone else who could use help raking or fall cleanup, please let Jeff L know (email or 347-7705).
Capturing Your Dream
As you consider your dreams, we'd [...]

Capturing Your Dream

If you've been a part of gatherings in the past few weeks, I hope you've been considering how your dreams might be connected to the work of God in the world. God is the author of all things good, true, just, right and beautiful, and he is inviting you to join that work and discover the life you've been dreaming of.

This goes way beyond a dream job or a dream vacation and points us to the God who made us and invites us to encounter him everyday in the ordinary moments of life. Follow [...]

Thanksgiving Eve: Stoughton Churches Join Together

On Thanksgiving Eve, the watershed family has been invited to join together with other church families from the Stoughton community. The evening's service will be a celebration of thankfulness for God's work in our community.

I hope you will consider joining us if you are in town on Thanksgiving Eve. While the service will have a more traditional flavor, Jeff L has been invited to share a short message during the service. Please pray for his preparation and for God to provide a word [...]

Advent Conspiracy: Christmas was meant to change the world

From the Advent Conspiracy website:

The story of Christ's birth is a subversive story of an upside-down kingdom. It's a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love that is still changing the world to this day. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and thi [...]

You've Got Dreams

...and your dreams matter.

You've got dreams. There's no one else that sees the world quite like you. You want your life to count, and to be a part of something bigger than yourself. We get that. We invite you to be yourself and pursue your dreams.
It's not so important that you support our dreams, but that we support yours.
We believe that God has planted dreams in all of us, and we want to bring these dreams to life - discovering together how to live a life that matte [...]

Dream Questions

Last week we began a journey of exploring our dreams and pursuing a life of purpose and destiny. This week's question: Why should we bother talking about dreams? Are our dreams for life somehow connected to living life with God?

What do you think? Do you have a dream? If so, what is it? Where did it come from? Is it a dream worth pursuing? How can you discover your dreams if you're not sure what they are? These are a few of the questions we'll begin exploring this week - and I'd lov [...]

Play a Part

If you've hung around watershed for long, you know that we're focused on being the church...putting our faith in action.

The church is not a place. The church is people following Jesus and joining God in his work in the world. God is redeeming the world, making things right.

That means you can join in the work that God is doing in the world, in your home, neighborhood, workplace, school.

There are a few opportunities I wanted to sha [...]

Beginning this Sunday, October 5, we have a new home for our gatherings. We'll be at MARC Stoughton, on the corner of Page & Roby [map]. The MARC building has a large room in the center for our gathering, with activity rooms available to use with the kids. We'll still gather at 10am and share lunch together afterward.

Join us in thanking God for providing a location for us, and for the hospitality of the MARC staff. Want to know more about what MARC does? Check out their website [...]

So, we're moving on from the EMS/Youth Center while they do some remodeling.

This Sunday, 9/28 we'll have our gathering at Norse Park in Stoughton (map - take Page Street north to Kriedeman; turn left and the park is 1 block down on your right; look for us at the shelter).

It's supposed to be a beautiful fall day, so we'll enjoy being together outdoors. We'll have time for prayer, discuss Colossians 3:1-17, and hear about what's new with our Less Is More goals. The children [...]

We received news today that the EMS Training Center where we usually gather on Sunday mornings is no longer available to us, starting this Sunday 9/28. We're working on an alternative location and we'll have all the details available here as soon as we know what they are.

No worries, though...we're more interested in being the church.

The church is not a place.
